Azerbaijan – Welcome to Azerbaijan! This is the Land of Fire and the Pearl of the Caucasus, a land where eastern colours combine magnificently with western progress. Azerbaijan is a country of unique nature, unmatched culture, centuries of history with its customs andtraditions and fine cuisine; a place which will satisfy the expectations of the most sophisticated gastronomists, and finally, it is the country of Caucasian hospitality and friendliness.

Icherisheher (Old town) – The last 10 years, under the influence of new economic and social conditions, the appearance of Baku has noticeably changed. Today, the city’s look significantly differs from what it was during the Soviet period. The modern city of Baku consists of the Old Town, the downtown, the two residential zones, and the industrial and oil-processing zones. TheCity Tour places the greatest emphasis on the Old Town, the historical part of the city.

Baku boulevard – Baku Boulevard (also known as National Park) is a promenade established in 1909 which runs parallel to Baku’s seafront. Its history goes back more than 100 years, to a time when Baku oil barons built their mansions along the Caspian shore and when the seafront was artificially built up inch by inch. The park is about 3 km and 750 m in size and located in south coast of the Caspian Sea. It starts at the National Flag Square and ends at Freedom Square. According to the Azerbaijan Cabinet of Ministers, the boulevard’s size is expected to reach 26 km, which will cover areas including Bibiheybət and Bay of Baku by 2015. The project on expansion of the Baku boulevard aims at creating more comfortable conditions for the residents of the capital city and the guests to have a rest and take sports in more comfortable conditions at the Caspian seashore. Before the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 the boulevard was extended to the National Flag Square. In 2010, amulti-story shopping mall Park Bulvar, Baku Business Centre and 5D cinema were
opened in this promenade as part of Government’s regeneration policy to boostshopping and leisure in Baku.

Heydar Aliyev center – The Heydar Aliyev Center is a 57,500 m2 building complex in Baku, Azerbaijan designed by Iraqi-British architect ZahaHadid and noted for its distinctive architecture and flowing, curved style that eschews sharp angles. The center is named after Heydar Aliyev, the first secretary of Soviet Azerbaijan from 1969 to 1982, and president of Azerbaijan Republic from October 1993 to October 2003. The Center houses a conference hall (auditorium), a gallery hall and a museum. The project is intended to play an integral role in the intellectual life of the city. Located close to the city center, the site plays a pivotal role in the redevelopment of Baku.

Ateshgah – Eternal Fire – Ateshgah – is an authentic Azerbaijani exotic. It is well-known practically all over the world. It is located 30 km from the center of Baku in the suburb of Surakhany. This territory is known for such unique natural phenomenon as burning natural gas outlets (underground gas coming onto surface contacts oxygen and lights up). The temple in its present state was constructed in the 17th-18th centuries. It was built by the Baku-based Hindu community related to Sikhs. However, the history of the Temple is even longer. From times immemorial this was the holy place of Zoroastrians – fire worshippers (approximately beginning of our era). They attributed mystical significance to the inextinguishable fire and came there to worship the relic. 37, Khojaly avenue, Baku Azerbaijan +994 12 310 34 41, +994 12 50 278 59 72 nijat@his.co.az, www.his.co.az

Yanardagh – One of Azerbaijanian natural phenomenon is found 25 kilometres from Baku, in a place known as Yanardagh located in the village of Mahammadli. The natural gas that seeps onto the surface gives this mountain (whose name translates as ‘burning mountain’) its famous ‘burning’ look. In order to protect Yanardagh and attract tourists here, this area was declared a historical, cultural and natural reserve in 2007. Today Yanardagh reserve is a favourite destination for tourists visiting the country. The mountain appears to be covered in tongues of flame from its foot to its peak, resembling red tulips. At first, such an unusual sight may give a strange impression, but this feeling turns into fascination upon watching the fire majestically seep out of the mountain core. 25 km from Baku.

Gobustan – Gobustan National Park officially Gobustan Rock Art Cultural Landscape, is a hill and mountain site occupying the southeast end of the Greater Caucasus mountain ridge in Azerbaijan, mainly in the basin of Jeyrankechmaz River, between the rivers Pirsagat and Sumgait.
It is located west of the settlement of Gobustan, about 40 miles (64 km) southwest of the centre of Baku on the west bank of the Caspian Sea. The territory of Gobustan is cut up with numerous, sometimes rather deep ravines. That is a suggested origin of the Gobustan geographical name. Rock drawings perpetuated the figures of the animals which lived there for the last 10 thousand years – goitered gazelles, wild goats, deer, wild boars, horses, lions, etc. There are also images of birds, fishes, snakes, lizards and insects. In 2007 Gobustan was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site considered to be of “outstanding universal value” for the quality and density of its rock art engravings.
